Pompano Beach Tree Service

Pompano Beach protects every palm in the city and requires an arborist assessment for most removals. Our ISA Certified Arborist handles that, and the crew trims, removes and cleans up from Hillsboro Shores to Palm Aire and Cresthaven.

Salt on one side, swale trees on the other

Pompano Beach runs from the Hillsboro Inlet and the beach, where coconut and royal palms live in constant salt wind, to inland neighborhoods like Cresthaven, Kendall Green and Palm Aire where 1960s and 1970s ranch homes have black olives, oaks and mahoganies planted in the swale half a century ago. The two halves need different work, and the city's tree rules apply to all of it.

Pompano Beach is one of the few Broward cities that protects every palm and requires an ISA Certified Arborist's survey with most removal applications. Our arborist does that assessment himself, and the application has to be filed by a registered Broward County tree trimmer, which we are. That means one crew handles the paperwork, the permit and the work.

Tree services we provide in Pompano Beach

  • Palm trimming - coconut, royal, sabal and foxtail palms on the beach and in Hillsboro Shores cleaned and de-fruited before storm season, without the over-trimming that kills them.
  • Tree trimming & pruning - 1960s black olives and oaks in Cresthaven, Kendall Green and Palm Aire thinned, raised and deadwooded.
  • Tree removal - removals with the arborist assessment, tree survey and city permit handled, including canal-side trees in Palm Aire and The Cove.
  • Stump grinding - stumps ground below grade so the replacement canopy the city requires can go in.
  • Storm & emergency service - downed trees and palms cleared after storms, from the beach to Palm Aire.
  • Lot & land clearing - redevelopment lots cleared after the tree survey, with protected trees and palms marked first.

Pompano Beach neighborhoods and the trees in them

Hillsboro Shores, the beach blocks and the condos along A1A are palm country. Coconuts, royals and sabals handle the salt, but they load up with fruit and dead fronds, and a coconut in a hurricane is a cannonball. Sea grape and the remaining Australian pines along the shore are the other calls, and anything near the dune has limits on what can be cut.

Across the Intracoastal, The Cove, Harbor Village and Palm Aire have canal and lake frontage, which means one side of every tree is reachable only by rigging or by water. Palm Aire's country-club lots carry big mature oaks and black olives from the 1970s. Cresthaven, Kendall Green, Leisureville and the Highlands are 1950s to 1970s single-family neighborhoods with swale trees that have outgrown the strip they were planted in, lifting sidewalks and reaching over roofs. Old Pompano and the blocks around the Airpark have the oldest trees in the city.

Tree removal permits in Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach requires a tree permit under Section 155.2411 of the city code before removing, relocating or substantially altering any tree, and every palm in the city is protected. The application must be submitted by a registered Broward County tree trimmer and include a tree survey and an assessment by an ISA Certified Arborist or a Florida landscape architect; owner-occupied homes on less than an acre get reduced requirements if the lot keeps its tree count and height. Fees are $25 per application plus $5 per tree, doubled if work was done without a permit, and replacement trees must provide at least the canopy that was removed. Trimming does not need a permit but must be done by a licensed Broward County tree trimmer. The city's Office of Urban Forestry administers all of it. We prepare the survey and arborist assessment in-house, so the permit is part of the estimate rather than a separate bill. See our Broward tree permit guide for the county layer.

Storm season at the inlet

Pompano Beach takes hurricane wind off the ocean with nothing in front of it, and the beach and Hillsboro Shores see the first and worst of it. Palm cleaning and coconut removal before June are the most important storm prep in the city. Inland, the failures are the usual: never-thinned black olives acting as sails, oaks with long heavy limbs over roofs, and ficus with shallow roots. We thin, reduce and deadwood in spring, and after a storm we work trees off houses and cars first, open streets and driveways, and cut debris to the lengths the city's haulers will take.

Pompano Beach tree service questions

Do I need a permit to remove a tree or palm in Pompano Beach?
Yes. The city requires a permit before removing, relocating or substantially altering any tree, and all palms are protected. Most applications need a tree survey and an ISA Certified Arborist's assessment, which our arborist provides, and the application must be filed by a registered Broward County tree trimmer, which we are.
Does trimming need a permit in Pompano Beach?
No, trimming does not require a permit, but the city requires it to be done by a licensed Broward County tree trimmer. Hiring an unlicensed crew can cost you, especially if the trimming is severe enough to count as substantially altering the tree.
Can you handle coconut and royal palms on the beach?
Yes. Beachside palm work is cleaning dead fronds, removing coconuts and seed pods before storm season, and nothing more. Over-trimming palms into a pineapple shape weakens them and is exactly what we avoid.
What are the permit fees in Pompano Beach?
The application fee is $25 plus $5 per tree. If a tree is removed without a permit the fees double and you still owe the replacement canopy, so it is never worth skipping. We include the permit in the estimate.
How much does tree service cost in Pompano Beach?
Palm cleaning is the least expensive work; removals of big swale oaks or black olives, or canal-side trees in Palm Aire and The Cove, cost more because of rigging and access. Estimates are free and include the survey and permit. Our Broward tree removal cost guide shows typical ranges.
